Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is: On-Site Massage Supports DCR’s Corporate Health and Wellness Initiative

People were flocking to my desk after I sent out an email announcement. When I went into a meeting, I came back to notes and emails. Others just waited for me.

What were they so excited about? DCR was sponsoring its first Employee Massage Day!

Employee health and wellness programs are hot topics, yet to some they’re merely industry buzzwords because often companies don’t put their money where their mouth is. Sure, some companies may do a few brochures here and there or send out some appropriate emails, but what do they really DO about it?

Putting people first

At DCR, we put our money where our mouth is! Each month, DCR sponsors some type of corporate health and wellness event at the workplace such as a jump rope contest or a 30-day challenge or a focus on greens. Additionally as part of our unique benefits package, we offer our valued employees a stipend toward a health club membership.

As a bonus benefit, in April we sponsored an in-house Employee Massage Day and we have another coming up in May due to overwhelming demand!

We believe happy, relaxed employees are productive employees and we strive hard to keep them that way. At DCR, we have high expectations of our team, yet we also know that they need to take care of themselves. With work and other family obligations it’s often difficult to find the time to do so, that’s why we brought the massage to them.

Healthy, happy and stress-free

Obviously, there are real health benefits to massage as well as, you know…it just feels great. Experts estimate that 80% to 90% of disease is stress-related. Massages can combat that frightening number by helping you relax. The physical changes massage brings to your body can have a positive effect in many areas of your life.

Besides increasing relaxation and decreasing anxiety, massage may lower your blood pressure, increase circulation, improve your recovery time from injury, help you sleep better, increase your concentration as well as reduce fatigue and give you more energy to handle stressful situations. Because we all know that it’s nearly impossible to live stress-free, but there are ways to manage it and one of those ways is through massage.

Slide right into the DCR spa, please

As part of the ambience, my team and I transformed the Innovation/Game area into a spa-like retreat complete with a scenic wall mural, seashells, scents and sounds. We also provided snacks, spa treat bags and plenty of infused water to flush out the toxins released by massage.

Was it a success? The answer is a resounding YES! Employees are already eagerly looking forward to the next massage day and some are asking if this can become a regular corporate health and wellness event.

Watch us transform the room into a spa and as our employees enjoy some well-deserved pampering in this video.
